Level 1 Award in Occupational Studies for the Workplace
The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide you with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required in a range of vocational areas. This qualification provides 10 occupational clusters, enabling you to develop an understanding of the core knowledge and skills for a specific industry.
It supports this by helping to give you a solid introduction to the occupational area of your choice.
This qualification is for you if you’re looking to develop new skills and enter a new industry and would like to get a taste of the skills and knowledge required. The range of units available allows learners to focus in on one area or experience a vast variety of disciplines.
Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles, Knowledge & Skills
This knowledge-based qualification will provide learners with a range of underpinning knowledge in both generic and specialist cleaning principles including infection control and meets the needs of learners who work or want to work in the cleaning or facilities sector.
Learners will develop an understanding of health and safety, infection control and waste management issues within the cleaning industry but will learn skills that can be transferred to other industries to ensure that clean and hygienic procedures are put in place and adhered to. Learners will also develop softer skills such as working with others. The optional units in this qualification allow full flexibility for learners as they can study general or specialist units relevant to the chosen area of development or employment in any combination.

Level 1 Award in Occupational Studies for the Workplace
This is a non-vocational qualification which sits within Foundation learning. The course aims to identify the learners’ own strengths and areas for improvement, planning and organising and how to implement these into the workplace:
- Looking at time management, problem skills and how to improve own learning and performance.
- Interview skills and techniques in preparation for the learners guaranteed interviews.
Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles, Knowledge & Skills
This qualification aims to:
- Help learners develop their knowledge and understanding of the skills required for working in the cleaning sector.
- Allow learners to progress to higher level learning and eventual employment.
The objective of this qualification is to help learners to:
- Develop a range of underpinning knowledge in both generic and specialist cleaning principles and meet the needs of learners who work or want to work in the cleaning sector.
Progression Route
Level 1 Award in Occupational Studies for the Workplace
This qualification will provide you with the foundation knowledge that can be applied to a variety of job roles.
Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles, Knowledge & Skills
Learners who achieve these qualifications could progress to:
- NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services Skills.
- Intermediate Apprenticeship in Cleaning and Environmental Support Services.
